Easter Sunday

Jesus Is Alive – Don Moen

When the clock strikes twelve, and we all who are in GMT+800 enters into Easter Sunday. We may all start to celebrate and be thankful for this joyous day. *cheers & claps*

Ever wondered why doesn’t Easter have a ‘fixed’ date like Christmas or New Year? Or even the true meaning of Easter?

Please, then allow me to talk slightly on the origins and come-about of Easter.

For us Christians, it is indeed a joyous day as Easter marks the day that Jesus resurrected from death 3 days after He was crucified on the cross. It is also known as the Easter Season where it marks the beginning of the fifty-five days to Pentecost Sunday.

To us, this period is very significant and is as important as Christmas because it is for the reason that Christ died for us and resurrected that we are therefore saved from eternal death.

Easter usually occurs in the period of March and April, calculated in accordance to the cycle of the moon. As we are all not ‘astrologists’ or whatever you call them we shall not discuss further about how this is calculated ? *Laughs*

There are many different cultures and rituals that many different denominations practice, but ultimately they all come to the same gist of the festivity – in celebration of Christ’s resurrection and salvation.

It is the reason that Christ came for and for that same reason till the end of time we must be thankful and joyous.

I am not sure about you, but just today as I walk through the stores of Orchard Road especially the chocolate counters, they are all selling chocolates in shapes of Bunnies and Eggs.

So one may ask how are Bunnies and Eggs related to what was shared earlier about the resurrection of Christ…

In today’s context, the myth of the Easter bunny goes way back to the 1600s where this Easter Bunny will go around with its basket-filled with colored eggs, candy and even toys for children, the same idea of Santa during Christmas.

Easter also falls in spring season, where the hare or rabbit is considered to be the most fertile animals, which also symbolizes new life in the spring season.

Eggs as well, depict the same meaning as new life.

The cultures and list of myths goes on, but it all boils down to the ‘new life’ through Christ that we all are able to have.

As cosmopolitans, all these meaningful festivities and important dates have become a commercial use to the modern advertisers acting as gimmicks and ways to promote or sell their products.

I’m not trying to say that it’s a ‘bad’ thing or even that they shouldn’t do it, but at least I hope you guys do really know the true meaning of the festive. Actually it’s kind of good also that they use it? Otherwise Easter might not even be as ‘friendly’ as a topic? Or it might even be ‘alienated’? *hmm…*

Well, just some examples on how people are using this ‘Easter’ to advertise is that The Singapore Heart Foundation is having a ‘Go Red Easter Egg Hunt @ Singapore Flyer” during this weekend at the Singapore Flyer in conjunction with the ‘Go Red’ movement.

There are also a lot of Hotels and restaurants that come up with special lunches and menus specially for the festive. Just yesterday I saw that Lawry’s are really having great deals for lunches on Easter! *Wow*
And also Hilton Singapore is celebrating Easter with ‘Picasso’ art menus.

How many of these actually draw you?

Or did the real meaning of Easter intrigue you more?

I hope it’s the second option that you feel more about…

If on this special day, you happen to stumble upon this site, and so happen to read this post and realized that you’ve been enjoying this festive without knowing the true meaning or had been truly oblivious about Easter and finally know about what Easter is now. And somehow you have the urge to know and want to receive the salvation that we were talking about, that Christ died for you and me. Experiencing this is not far, but just as simple as a prayer away, being salvaged form eternal death is also this simple.

If you want to experience all this, then make this your prayer today…

Dear Lord Jesus,

I need you… I need Your grace to forgive me and I need Your love to change me. Thank You for your amazing love… thank You for giving me life and eternity… thank You for giving me Life! And eternity! But above all, thank You for dying on the cross for me. I invite you to live in me… and I proclaim that I belong to You. I will live my life for You and I will love You forever..

In Jesus name,

If you’ve prayed this prayer, I’m so happy that you’ve taken this first great step to join us to be especially joyful for this day of Easter.

It will be even greater if you could just be with us in a Church where we’d all love to share with you more about our beloved saviour who is the ‘star’ of this festive.

Do contact any of us or check us out at http://onelove.sg or contact us at contact@onelove.sg

We’d love to hear form you!
